New Earswick Celebrates the Queens Platinum Jubilee

As the dust settles it is time to look back and reflect on what a fantastic Jubilee Event we had at the beginning of June. The teams at The Folk Hall and New Lodge, supported by the New Earswick Residents Forum, as well as the wider JRHT and JRF Organisations hosted the New Earswick community for a Platinum Jubilee spectacular!

The Big Jubilee Lunch was a great opportunity to bring everyone together after a tough couple of years and to welcome residents old and new to enjoy the new green spaces at the rear of the Folk Hall. I hope you can all agree that we certainly did that.

It was so nice to so many people come together for a big celebration. Throughout the day there were information stands from a variety of groups, musical performances and a range of activities and fun to be had. It was worth all the hard work and effort to see so many smiling faces. Rest assured we have more big plans in the works! Not just that, in the days since the event we have had a number of people coming to the Post Office and Reception to let us know how much they enjoyed the event, we couldn’t be happier that it has been so well received.

There are so many people to thank for their contribution and support:

Thank you to York City Knights, George’s Greens, Co-op Haxby, Asda, Knavesmire Butchers, Bromwich Family Butchers, Thistle do Nicely, Nestle, Film at the Folk Hall and so many more for their fantastic donations to the Tombola. Your generosity was incredible to see and thank you to our very own Wayne Boyce for running home to get more prizes when we ran a bit low!

We would like to thank Andy at Speedkix, Paul at Airborne, Ruth Claydon Face Painting, Megumi Bailey Origami, Barrington Powell, Baz Larner, Peter Cloudsdale for providing so many fantastic activities and entertainment for people to get involved in.

To all our singers and music groups thank you all for the great performances; St Chad’s Scout Band, Juniper Singing Group, Ken Stamp, Lesley Jones Band, the Yorky Pud Street Band.

We would also like to thank Roberts and Son for providing the Hog Roast, which was absolutely delicious!

We had some great local community groups come and have stalls throughout the day. Our JRHT Resident Involvement team, NERF, New Earswick Explore Library, Accessible Arts, New Earswick Local History Group, Yvonne Recycling and St Nick’s. All these groups are part of what makes New Earswick special.

There was our regular Saturday Visit from George’s Greens and he was busy serving the local community as he always does with the very best fresh fruit and vegetables.

A special shout out has to go to Gill Ryley of the Folk Hall team, her tireless work helping to organise the event, liaising with the performance groups, and communicating with the other event organisers was vital to make sure the event was the success it became.

Finally just want to thank all of the people that gave up their time to come and help run the event! Chris Dudzinska, Dylan Blaker-Pugh, Donna Stead, Andrea Wood, Matt Lewer, Katherine Blaker, Fi Godfrey-Faussett and Wayne Boyce.

As we wrap this up we are very proud of the work that went in to organising the Big Jubilee Lunch and what we were able to pull off. We will finish by saying thank you to everyone that attended and we cannot wait to see you again for the next event!!
