York Concert Band Raises the Roof and £800 for Charity

We were delighted to host the York Concert Band and their charity concert last weekend!

On the afternoon of Saturday 25 June, the 40 members of the thriving North Yorkshire ensemble York Concert Band staged a concert to raise funds for Bereaved Children Support York (BCSY), an organisation that aims to support bereaved children and families in the York area.

During the Summer Serenade, held here at the Folk Hall, audience members enjoyed 2-hours full of popular toe-tapping tunes with songs from The Greatest Showman, Mamma Mia, Star Wars, Les Mis, Ed Sheeran, Grease, The Beatles and more.

The Conductor Sue Sykes said they were, “pleased that the band were asked to support this event. We find it rewarding helping to raise funds for worthwhile causes. We enjoyed sharing our programme of music and we hope everyone had an entertaining and uplifting afternoon.”

Jo Cole, founder of BCSY added that, “the music from the band was wonderful and the smiles in the room showed how much fun the audience had. The money raised from the event will be put to good use buying toys and creative supplies for crafts at our monthly drop-in peer support group sessions where bereaved children come together to join in with activities knowing that they have all had similar experiences. It will also go towards therapeutic support provided by the experienced bereavement practitioners we employ”.

The event was a great success and, including money raised from a fantastic raffle full of impressive prizes such as a £50 voucher for The Designer Outlet, North York Moors Railway tickets, a free pass for RHS Harlow Carr Gardens Harrogate and tickets for Castle Howard, the event raised a fabulous £800 for the charity.
