The Folk Hall are committed to making the building accessible for all and are constantly reviewing how this can be improved. The building and surrounding areas underwent a major refurbishment which was completed in 2018. A major focus of the refurbishment was making the Folk Hall more accessible.
Parking
We have free car parking in our public car park as well as four designated Blue Badge Holder Bays just outside the main entrance.
Accessible Entrances
Whether you come by car, bus or from the local area, every entrance into the main body of the building is either level access or via a wide ramp. Explore Library and our Eatery can be accessed directly too. The Discovery room has also had a ramp installed so people can access this community space.

Finding your way around the Folk Hall
Our signage is designed to make it easier for people to find their way around the Folk Hall independently. With colour coding to guide to key services and rooms, and symbols to support those with difficulty reading written language.
Changing Places
Changing places is situated near reception on the ground floor. The Changing Places facility is available to anyone who requires it, anytime we are open, not just people coming in to use our other services or activities. Our Changing Places has an adjustable changing table, tracking hoist, toilet with support bars, movable screen, mirror, hooks for clothing and shelves for other personal effects.
Platform Lift
We have a platform lift to give full access to the first floor mezzanine and public spaces, as well as Bramley meeting room which is a couple of steps higher up.
Hearing Loops
We have hearing loops available in all of our meeting spaces. Some of these are fixed, but where this isn’t possible, we have portable hearing loops available in the spaces at all times.

We are always looking to improve our offer to our community and customers and welcome suggestions and ideas from them on other changes we can make to ensure their experience is the best it can be.
Accessible Cafe Menus
Our Menus are designed to be easier to read and well set out, whilst still having all the fantastic offerings from the cafe. The simpler style and clear spacing between items makes it more approachable to those with a variety of needs.
Our Chairs
For all standard bookings, events and classes we will use our standard grey chairs, if you require specific seating or have any other access needs let us know by speaking to the Folk Hall reception or via the booking organiser. The grey chairs do not have arms and can support a weight of up to 200kgs. In the rest of the building we have a variety of seating within the eatery space, with some having arm rests and some without. We also have banquette seating in both the main reception area and in the eatery.
If you require any further information about our chairs please email: folkhall@jrf.org.uk
