Back to the Bop- A blast from the past!

The energy was high and the laughter loud as people arrived sharing stories of dancing the night away and comparing notes on bands they had seen on the stage back in the day. Nostalgic stories of seeing Pink Floyd performing proved a popular memory for many and this “Back to the Bop” is sure to be added to the stories that will be told for years to come.

A lively crowd joined us to reminisce, sing and dance to the sound of the past with DJ Geoff Bunce taking us through the decades with tunes from the 50’s-80’s. With the dance floor immediately full and the atmosphere electric, it wasn’t long before we were reminded of why live music is so powerful. The room only got louder once the 5:15’s came on stage opening with ‘You really got me’ by the Kinks. Hands in the air and the booming sound of the crowd singing along to classics including ‘Gangsters’ by The Specials carried through the rest of the evening. Laughter filled the hall as the 5:15’s played their cover of ‘Down at the Station at Midnight’ by the Jam, rebranded as ‘Down at the Bus Stop in New Earswick’. Truly a night of shared memories being created in real time.

We also wanted to take the time to acknowledge and thank  everyone, particularly the off duty nurses who supported with the medical emergency that occurred at the beginning of the evening. Thank you  to you all for allowing space for the emergency services to do what they needed to help. We are pleased to report there was a positive outcome, and that the individual is doing well.

We would love to hear your feedback and ideas for future events. Share with us what kind of music you would like to hear and any bands you would like to see on the Folk Hall stage.

Music reminds us why we gather, why we celebrate, and why we keep coming back for more.

If you missed this one, don’t worry— keep an eye on our website and socials for more upcoming events!
