Sharing hope this Mental Health Awareness Week

Film poster for WHY

This Mental Health Awareness Week, 13 to 19 May, Film at the Folk Hall is hosting an event with an important yet positive and hopeful message that addresses the stigma surrounding suicide.

On Friday 17 May, Film at the Folk Hall is showing ‘WHY’, a suicide prevention film made in York by members of York Ending Stigma, and supported by Menfulness, with funding from the Joseph Rowntree Foundation.

The film is part of a York Ending Stigma suicide prevention campaign fully produced by people with experience of suicidal thoughts and behaviours. By safely and sensitively sharing their personal experiences, they aim to encourage more open conversations and actions to help prevent suicide.

As well as the screening of this incredible film, we will hear from Emma Williams from York Ending Stigma, watch a short film made by Menfulness and hold a question-and-answer session with some of the champions who appear in the main feature.

Find out more about the campaign at www.WhySuicidePrevention.co.uk

Doors open at 6.30pm and the film starts at 7pm. There’s more information about timings and tickets on our event page.

Please be mindful of your own wellbeing and the nature of the subject matter when deciding whether to attend. We will have mental health first aider-style support and signposting available at the event, but please be aware that we are not a crisis support or mental health service.
