Based on true events The Woman King is set in the 1800s, a group of all-female warriors protects the African kingdom of Dahomey with skills and fierceness unlike anything the world has ever seen. Faced with a new threat, Gen. Nanisca trains the next generation of recruits to fight against a foreign enemy that’s determined to destroy their way of life.

We will be joined for the evening by two inspiring speakers talking about their important work in our city:

Kate McLaven (she/her) is an intersectional feminist, working in the business of building a better future. Kate is the York Local LEad on Emerging Futures at the Joseph Rowntree Foundation and co-coordinator of York Anti Racist Collective.

Sarah Huggett (she/her) unites communities through creative arts, empowering positive change. In homeless services, she provides holistic support, fostering independence. She also promotes creativity at York anti Racist Collective.

As always you can expect an interesting evening among friends in our beautiful hall, created by Joseph Rowntree with a vision to bring communities together under one roof. As well as a licensed bar with snacks, we have an interval so you can make your cinema trip a social one.
