We are changing the way we support access to food waste in our community!

From the 5th of December 2022, the Help Yourself Shelf will no longer receive waste food from supermarkets due to limited stock. This means from this date the Help Yourself Shelf will be closed. We are continuing to work with local groups and will be creating a donation box for New Earswick Helping Hands from January 2023.

Thank you to everyone who has donated to the shelf, helping us reduce food waste. We would like to say a particular thank you to volunteers at the Red Tower who have been delivering surplus food to the Help Yourself Shelf over the last few years and local volunteers who have regularly made donations. You can read all of this information and more on our display in the corridor next to Orchard Hall.

We will still be supporting local groups such as New Earswick Helping Hands, Haxby Food Share and Bellfarm Food Bank, there is more information about what they offer on the posters below.

  1. Well done you lovely people for keeping it going so long. When I tok over from the seeds sown by Audrey, I never would have guessed that it would provide so much help for the people of New Earswick. I watch with interest how the Hall has, and continues to expand services for the local people.
