What’s On

We have a host of regular and one off events running at the Folk Hall for our local and wider community to join in. We have Art Classes, Martial Arts, community groups, a range of exercise classes including Pilates, yoga, Over 50’s keep fit and so much more. Throughout the year we also host a range of big community and one off special events, more details of which you can find further down the page!

We also have the The New What’s On Guide and Annual that are now available for download, you can pick up a hard copy at the Folk Hall Reception. 2022 Events

Saturday 17th September – Recycling Day at the Folk Hall – Let’s be Green!

We have a great event coming to the Folk Hall this September, in conjunction with Chaffinch, Reboot North Yorkshire, Rotary and St Nicks, where we will be hosting a recycling day! Set up in our main hall will be a wide range of bins, recycling caddies and recycling points for you to recycle items you have lying around. You can see below the large selection of items we can help you dispose of, so have a look in those draws and see what you can find. Everything we can recycle and reprocess helps us to be less wasteful and push for a greener, better planet

As a green hub we always aim to support the New Earswick and local York community in being more aware of waste and how we can combat it. We cannot wait to see you there and together we can make a difference.

Eco-Crafters flower workshops

Alongside our Recycling Day we have an Eco-Crafters Recycled Flower Workshop on Saturday 17th September. Three sessions are running at 10:00, 10:45 and 11:30am, suitable for children aged 7 years and are free, all children to be accompanied by an adult. Contact the Folk Hall reception in person or by phone as places are limited.

Friday 23rd September – Film at the Folk Hall presents The Duke

Our next Film at the Folk Hall is here! In 1961, 60-year-old Kempton Bunton stole Goya’s portrait of the Duke of Wellington from the National Gallery in London. He sent ransom notes saying that he would return the painting on condition that the government invested more in care for the elderly. What happened next became the stuff of legend. An uplifting true story about a good man who set out to change the world and managed to save his marriage…

Friday 30th September – Evening of Mediumship with Debra Chalmers and Chris Drew

Prepare for a heartwarming evening of mediumship this September, as we welcome Debra Chalmers and Chris Drew.

Debra has been a full-time professional medium since 2011. Working as a Medium passing on messages from loved ones to their families.  Although she has sensed spirits for most of her life,  it was during her teenage years that her sensitivity became more active. She would see and hear spirit clearly. 

She followed her heart and now works full time as a medium and lifestyle coach. She has trained extensively at the world renowned Arthur Findlay College and as well as communicating with the spirit realm she offers teaching in both groups and on an individual basis.  She is convinced that we can all connect to the spirit world – we just need to understand how. 

Once Chris had begun to consciously develop his mediumship, he was quickly led to the Arthur Findlay College, the world’s foremost college for the Advancement of Mediumship and Psychic Sciences, where he embarked on an intensive study and development of his mediumistic abilities. He has also studied at The College of Psychic Studies and The Spiritualist Association of Great Britain in London. 

Although he is predominantly based in London, his work has taken him across the UK, and to many countries throughout the world including USA, Japan, Australia and all over Europe . 

He has a fresh and modern approach to mediumship, he works tirelessly to reunite people with their loved ones.

Saturday 1st October – Mobile Dialysis Charity Fundraiser

Next Saturday,1st October, we are hosting a Charity Ceilidh to raise funds for a Mobile Dialysis Vehicle on Behalf of York Hospital trust. A chance to raise money for a fantastic cause!

Coming to the Folk Hall in October is another great show from Lesley Jones. Featuring songs from your favourite movies like Chicago – Hamilton – Jersey Boys – We Will Rock You – Rocketman – Evita – Yesterday – Hairspray – Shania Twain.
